About

The Institute of Musicology is an important centre of Czech musicology with the longest tradition in the country. It provides studies in the field of musicology at all levels, bachelor, master and doctoral.

In teaching, we try to link teaching and science as closely as possible, but it does not neglect preparing graduates for employment in cultural and memory institutions.

In addition to the traditional emphasis on research on Czech music of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the 19th century, which continues to be carried out here, other historical periods and topics such as 17th and 18th century music and musical theatre, as well as cultural studies of music, also receive attention.

As a result, the study at the Institute of Musicology covers virtually the entire history of the European artistic tradition and offers insights into research on non-European musical traditions and contemporary musical culture from a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives.
